Soundwave workshops


You can get involved in lots of different audio workshops at Soundwave 2010. You can apply for as many as you like, but places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment.

What workshops can I do?

Lewes live literature creative writing

This is a two day workshop. You will spend one day creating and refining material in a writing workshop, and one day developing the performance and making a recording of your work. You will have the opportunity to perform your work at one of the live concerts.
When?
Monday 26 and Thursday 29 July 10am to 3pm (lunch 12 noon to 1pm)

Sound engineering

Learn the skills and tricks of the recording studio engineer with Iain Paxon.

Samba (free)

Brazilian rhythms south coast style with Jamie Morgan from RhythmSynergy. Instruments will be supplied.

Body percussion

This is a fun workshop which explores the way you can make sounds with your body. Led by Jamie Morgan from RhythmSynergy.

Guitar for beginners

Improve your guitar playing, handy hints and a chance to jam. Led by guitarists and composer John Evans.

Live music

Come and jam! Instruments will be supplied.
Beginners/intermediate.

How to play lead guitar

Learn the secrets of lead guitar. Beginners/intermediate.
Led by guitarists and composer John Evans.

Musical storytelling* Soundwave special

Join the imagination factory and create stories and soundtracks. All stories will be recorded and you will take away a CD. The stories will be broadcast the
following week. Led by musicians/songwriters Sam Walker and Dan Clark from the band The Adventurists.


Singing workshop

A workshop to help singers improve their technique, with vocal coach Lucy Waite.

Beat box

Learn to beat box with the amazing Sol – one of the country’s best up-and-coming beat boxers.
Beginners are welcome.

Electronica

A chance to experiment with samples, guitars, synths and drum modules, with Sam Dook from the Go!Team.

Drums for beginners

Have you ever wanted to play the drums? Now is your chance.
No experience is necessary. Drum kit and sticks will be supplied.
Led by Elliott Franklin Page.

Improve your drumming

A workshop for intermediate drummers who want to improve their technique. Led by Elliott Franklin Page and session player Dan Breslaw.

Radio play

Write, perform and record a radio show with Laura Byford Winter. The shows will be broadcast on Jellyfish Radio the following weekend.

Radio jingles

Working in the recording studio you will learn to create jingles and stings for Jellyfish Radio.

Band workshop

Are you starting a band? This workshop will give your band the space, equipment, guidance and advice you need to get you up and running.

Banner making (free)

Learn how to design and create stage backdrops with the internationally recognised graffiti artist Tom Goulden. Your banners will be used to decorate the stage at our Grand Finale Concert.

VJ and DJ

Mix images, text and a live feed using a VJ mixing deck and a 12000 lumen projector. Learn to scratch and mix on classic Technics1210 turntables. Led by Steve Franklin.

You can take part in workshops at:

  • The JOFF Youth Centre, Roderick Avenue, Peacehaven BN10 8BL, and
  • Lewes Live Lit artists’ workspace, Bus Station, Eastgate Street.

How much does it cost?

The cost per workshop is £2. The samba and banner-making workshops are free.

If you are under 16 you must get your parent/carer to complete the booking form.

All bookings must be made by post or in person. You can’t book by phone.
