Do you play a stringed instrument? Are you grade 7 or above and age 14 or over? If you’d like to play with some of the best young string musicians in the county, you can apply to join the East Sussex String Chamber Orchestra (ESSCO).

Apply to join a county orchestra or band

We are a small string orchestra of 30 players and we play a range of different music.

We perform regularly at venues across the county, including at the East Sussex Music Service summer school. We recently performed at the Arts Centre in Lewes and the Winter Garden in Eastbourne .

The ESSCO is directed by Christopher Hirons. He has spent most of his career leading and directing chamber orchestras, including the Northern Sinfonia, and the English String Orchestra. Christopher also teaches at the Royal College of Music – so you’ll be learning from the best.
