Youth Cabinet campaigns – The environment: use less, enjoy more

The top two issues chosen by you in the Big Vote 2009 election were transport and the environment. So we are focusing on these topics until the end of 2011.

What we’ve done so far and what’s next

We think people should be more aware about reducing the energy they use at home, in schools and, well, everywhere.

We want to develop a campaign that will:

  • encourage our schools to be more energy efficient and
  • get pupils more actively involved.

We will find out:

  • how schools monitor the energy they use
  • what plans they have to reduce it
  • what you can do to be more active in reducing energy use.

Thanks to everyone who completed The Big Transport and Environment Questionnaire. Find out more about the results.

If you didn't manage to complete the questionnaire you can still let us know your thoughts on either of our campaigns – just get in touch.

Climate Change Youth Summit November 2010

'Do you object?' game

Caption: 'Do you object?' game

The annual summit brings together East Sussex schools and decision-makers to explore local environmental issues and make plans for the future.

At the summit we launched our Big Transport and Environment Questionnaire and ran workshops with our ‘Do You Object?’ game. At the end of the event the attendees voted on three declarations they would put into practice at their schools. These were:

  • to develop a strategy to increase renewable energy use
  • to support a county-wide ‘Switch off’ day
  • to set themselves a carbon target.

We are discussing the declarations to see how we can help make them happen.
