'I'm your Local Support Worker!' – Natasha's story

Natasha Cummings is the Local Support Worker for the Youth4U – Young Inspectors Programme.

This is what she has to say about Youth4U...

Right now is a great time to become a Young Inspector. I meet a lot of young people who want more opportunities, especially during the summer, and this is a fantastic programme with so many great outcomes.

Lots of young people are finding it difficult to get a job or a college or university place, and projects like Youth4U – Young Inspectors develop skills and get you out there meeting people in the community.

Ultimately, programmes like these can open up new doors for you. Potentially, you could meet your future employer or learn about forthcoming jobs or projects to get involved in. Even the experience itself is priceless, in terms of being involved in a project you can speak clearly about to employers!

It is all about getting that vital work experience and training you need when you are starting out, as well as building up your confidence and showing your ability to work well with others.

Since leaving school I have done various volunteering, internships and work experience. Without the practical experience gained from undertaking these placements I would not be where I am today.

I really encourage everyone to become an active citizen and take part in projects like these. It is a fun way of learning and great way to meet new people.
