It’s not easy becoming a mum at 18. You need to change and grow up a lot, which is hard if you want to have fun. When I first found out, I went for a scan and was shocked to find out I was five months pregnant! I thought I might be only two or three months at most. I couldn’t believe I was going to be a mum so soon and I was so scared.
The first few months
But my pregnancy went well, and my baby Jasmine was born. At first I still couldn’t believe she was really mine. I suffered a bit from the baby blues in the early weeks and she was around three months old before I really felt I was her mum. Luckily for me my little girl was an angel. She only really cried when she was hungry and she slept a lot.
It's an amazing feeling!
As time went on, I gradually realised that this little person relied on me for everything. I had created her, and given her life. It was an amazing feeling and my love for Jasmine grew. Now I am proud to call her mine. I would be lost without her and she will always come first in my life. If you’re going to be a mum, you will feel the same. You may feel it gradually like I did, or all of a sudden when your baby grasps your finger or they first smile or laugh at you. This is an amazing sound.
Life is not a bed of roses
Jasmine is six months old now and has a good routine, but she is very smart and can be more challenging sometimes! It can be tough being a mum and occasionally you can feel you are getting uptight or becoming angry. You need to find a way to cope that’s right for you. When this happens with Jasmine I put her in her cot so she is safe, and leave the room to calm down.
Although I love her so much, life is not a bed of roses! But I know I will always protect her and be there for my little girl.
